    The state of Massachusetts doesn’t allow coupon use on prescriptions. Many years ago I sent my husband to pick up a prescription for me, when he got home I asked what the price was, nearly had a heart attack when he told me $250.00 for a thirty day supply. I took the receipt from him as well as the bag (stapled closed) and took it back to the pharmacy. Because the bag had never been opened they gave me my money back. I then went to the neighboring store and purchased two one dollar scratch tickets. Got home scratched the tickets and had won $300.00. Called the doctor and asked for a less expensive prescription, which I got for under $10.00.

    I check good rx before asking the doctor for a refill. Then we will have the prescription called into the cheapest pharmacy. Currently for my meds with Medicare part D, I get them from my Medicare advantage plan mail order pharmacy free. My husband has a cardiac med that is $180 for 3 months at our closest pharmacy and $27.34 at rite aid 38 miles away. We waited until we had errands up there to pick it up. You can call a pharmacy and ask them to request your prescription be transferred to them from your more expensive pharmacy. Just because they filled it, does not mean that you have to pay for it. You can always call and ask them the price for it, before going to get it. No one looks out for your money but you. For anyone who lives rurally and needs more data, if you are 55 you can do consumer cellular with AARP discount and get 2 phones unlimited everything, no throttling $70.12 including taxes.

    GoodRX or other discount coupon sites. It will list all the local pharmacies prices and there are usually vast difference. Print the coupon to the one you want and go there for the meds. China has been making a lot of our drug s for a long time. Check the Jasecase for a set of antibiotics to have on hand. You talk to an MD then they set up the case for you to have the meds on hand in an emergency. Also now they are offering a yearly RX . If the meds don't change then it may be a wise choice to investigate.

    A very interesting alternative to buying clothing (anywhere) that I learned of recently are swap parties. You get together with several friends and everyone brings their clothing and accessories that they no longer want (may include books and small décor items). You meet at someone's place and lay out your stuff. If someone wants an item, they take it; if you see something you want, you take it (no money is exchanged). Stop for lunch and fellowship and then go back to swapping. If for any reason the item you take doesn't work for you or you no longer want it, you bring it back to the next swap party. This can be done two or three times a year. I think it could make a fun church ladies' event.

    My hubby died this last April, and I have sense learned how to cook mug meals. O( so not like left overs and I will not eat the same thing twice in one week. I have always been a prepper and I can and dehydrate and freeze most of my food, I no longer grow a garden due to a bad back and knees, Most of the mug meals require a 1/2 to a 1/4 cuo of most items down to tablespoons fii or even scant teaspoons of an ingredient, I now package most ingreadents in those small amounts in the freezer and then into a larger bag, to hep to keep freezer organized. I bought your bundle to help me to do meal planning as I never really did that I just went to my pantry or freezer and got what I wanted and went from there. This is all new to me.

    My commander in the navy unit I re-enact in was real army, a Major. He's retired and sometimes has only $25 in his bank account. It is a sad situation when even the veterans who protect our country live way under the median, but he and his wife do. I do, and I have to carefully watch what I spend on my hobbies, though I find free outlets for my book habit. Not the library-they are short on 19th century Civil War memoirs-however googlebooks has some terrific things in this line, and I just found a website called spared and shared that is chock a block with transcriptions of original letters from soldiers and sailors in the field. No cost!!! I can read my brains out for nothing!! I spend time Civil War Re-enacting, and taught myself 19th century navigation from youtube, again free, to the point that I can educate others. Now getting the items to demonstrate the navigation with took a little money, but even then, I did not go all out, and I still have some things ear-marked for the future that I am saving for. My problem is that I work for the school system, and I am off during the summer, and not getting paid. I am getting a part-time job, and getting some help with food and what not, but this summer is tense....

  • @graceerhart5796
    @graceerhart5796 18 годин тому

    and in Civil War re-enacting I cadge used uniforms and equipment when the price is right. Lately the price has not been low enough- but I am patient, and the events are there. New brogans can cost 100.00 but I got the ones I am wearing now for 50. and I have a pair of backups I bought for 60. Significant savings!

    I am in the Society for Creative Anachronism, and the dues are a bit per year- 40 but they are worth it. It would seem like the garb and equipment would be expensive, but often I have found free garb, feastware and cloth to make more garb at events. I befriended a laurel who gave me a used sewing machine that works to sew new garb on. Now I have picked up free cloth at events, and myself and some of my friends in the SCA are planning a get together to make new garb, on sewing machines, for very little cost.

    You keep talking about going to the library; however our library has fewer and fewer books on the shelves; instead you need to download them, and if you don't have the app, your out of luck. But if you are like me and love history, another avenue is available. Online you can find googlebooks advanced search. There you not only have access to tons of history books, downloadable for free, you can download them and keep them forever if you wish. Only two weeks on the library, and if you work every day, you might not have enough time crammed in there to read something.

    Insurance should only be for losses that you cannot pay for yourself. Never forget that insurance premiums must cover the cost of all claims, plus sales and marketing costs, and administrative costs. If you can regularly save enough to cover a kind of loss, you do not need insurance. You only need insurance for the costs you cannot bear, and for the negotiating power of the insurer. I cancelled my medigap coverage and save the cost of the premium in a sinking fund. When I have bills I use the sinking fund.

    My civil war re-enacting events are like mini vacations. However the food is cheap; if I do school days (when do I not? If it is going on, I do it) I get a free lunch on the Friday. Usually Saturday the unit I am with has a meal; if not, I make sure I bring about 5 $! cans of soup and my tin bowl and spoon. I have supper, and I heat my soup over the campfire, in the bowl. Breakfast is invariably oatmeal, and the unit brings packets and water is heated on the fire. Firewood is free at the events, as is water. My unit brings a tent for me to camp in, though I have my own little tent and can bring it in a pinch. I have my own camp cot and bedding. Camp cot is wood and canvas and foldable. I use blankets as padding as well as covers. I bring flashlights from the dollar tree with small batteries (one of the few good places to get new things) Although now its 1.25 tree, and going up. However. I usually share a tent with the commander, and that works out; he and I get along well, and he loves the history the way I do. In fact, people wonder why re-enacting persists; it is the love of the history that is the glue. This is true for all re-enacting.

    I have treats of eating out at Medieval events-but when I don't think I can afford the feast or I didn't reserve it, I have two options. I can help serve everyone else. If you help serve and wait tables, you will get to eat free! And if I don't want to do that, I can go home (a lot of the events are twenty minutes from me) and eat there.

    We keep our thermostat at 78 unless I’m doing something like cleaning then I turn it down a little extra so I don’t get too hot. Then turn it back up when I’m done. We also turn down a bit when it starts getting in the high 90 or over 100. Which happens most of the summer and through September. 🥵

    OMAD eating is doable if you don't have a job that burns a lot of calories. Since I retired from nursing I eat twice a day. When I worked I ate twice a day on my day off.

    You might also check w your electric company my sis in OK city had an agreement w her compnay to not run the dishwasher, washer or dryer during high peak times and she earned cheaper electricity. I think it was .05-.10 cents cheaper per killiowatt hour. She had a house of 8 at the time so for her it was extremely useful.

    I am living on my own. I lived with my husband and mother for years when I came north to Apopka, Florida. Alas, my mother passed in 2014, my husband in 2018. In 2020 my roommate had to move to Nashville, Tennessee due to physical problems. My new roommate lost her job and couldn't pay me rent; she currently owes me $5000. I kicked her out of my house. I still have one of her two cats; the other died after a long time in a vet clinic. And I took in another cat that needed to come inside. I have two real hobbies, Civil War Re-enacting and Medieval Re-enacting. Both can be done on a shoestring budget; anybody looking at my equipment would probably think I put thousands of dollars into it, without realizing that is over a period of nearly 30 years. And there are ways to make it economical. I cadge used uniforms that I can use when they are available, instead of waiting for the ones I am wearing now to fall off my back. In one case this meant waiting two years for the purchase of new light blue wool pants for an infantry impression. But, I saved $50 with that wait, and got a good pair of pants that will last a long time into the bargain. Plus I kept my old pants so that if I need to wear them again, I have them. Plus I am in a good group and if one of us sees something another can use, we let them know about it, and if it will be used by the unit may help out on the cost. At one point I needed a small connector to attach a scraper to my ramrod so that I could use it. Bless his heart, the commander chipped in half the money for it, and I supplied the rest. But we both knew everyone in the unit could use my scraper if tney needed to.
